TMJ & TMD Treatment

Have you been diagnosed with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD)? Problems in the jaw joint and surrounding tissues can cause pain and other symptoms that can impact your quality of life. If you are suffering from jaw and facial pain caused by TMJ, there are non-invasive solutions for relief. Our dental team at The Smile Lounge offers TMJ and TMD treatment at our dental center in Grand Prairie.
TMJ/TMD can be caused by a wide variety of issues. Genetics, missing teeth, jaw misalignment, bruxism and other factors can contribute to temporomandibular joint disorders, or there may be no known cause. People with TMJ often have jaw or facial pain – the area around the jaw and cheek may be tender. Other symptoms can include popping/clicking sounds in the jaw, headaches, locking jaw, neck pain and earaches. In some cases, orthodontic or dental treatments can restore better jaw alignment and offer relief for patients with TMD. Another option is using an oral appliance to relieve pressure on the jaw joint to offer relief.

Jaw Pain, Facial Pain Relief!

A customized TMJ oral appliance is similar to a dental mouthguard or nightguard, but it is made to relieve stress on the temporomandibular joint. Each appliance is custom designed for the patient to fit comfortably in their mouth and address their specific alignment issues. These oral appliances can be used at night to relieve pressure and stress on the jaw joint, muscles and tendons. Many people with TMJ report reduced pain and other symptoms soon after using their TMJ device every night when they sleep. If you have TMD jaw or facial pain, it may be caused by a tooth or jaw misalignment. To learn more about TMJ and TMD treatment options, contact us at The Smile Lounge in Grand Prairie. Our staff can schedule a TMJ consultation and exam with Dr. Daniels to discuss the possible treatments that may give you relief from your jaw joint disorder.
